| The standard cigarette plug is adequate for
small to medium size telescopes where the combined heater current is less
than 5 Amps (see chart below). The standard cigarette plug power cord will accept up
to a 10 Amp fuse, but before using a larger fuse check the current rating
of your cigarette socket. Do not use a fuse larger than your cigarette
socket is
rated for as the socket may overheat and melt. Very few cigarette
sockets are rated more than 7.5 Amps and some are rated at less than 5 Amps. For telescopes that use 5 Amps or more of heater current, the Ring Terminal Option is recommended because it provides better low-resistance connections, has a heavy duty 16 gauge power cord, and an internal low-resistance solid state fuse that never needs replacement (just disconnect power for a few minutes to reset the fuse). A Molex Connector is provided to allow quick disconnect of equipment and makes a better low-resistance connection than a cigarette plug. DewBuster™ controllers equipped with ring terminals are able to deliver up to 20 Amps total heater load (10 Amps from AUTO, 10 Amps from AUX). When ordering your DewBuster™ controller with Ring Terminals, you will need to specify the size of the hole in the terminal. Standard sizes are 1/4", 5/16", and 3/8" and you may specify different sizes for positive (red) and negative (black). Other sizes are available upon request. If you are using a Pyramid Power Supply the ring terminal size needed is 1/4". Extra pigtails (Molex Connector to ring terminals) may be ordered if desired, e-mail me with your requirements and I will furnish a price. A cigarette plug pigtail is also available to allow the option of connecting to a cigarette socket when needed. To determine your combined heater current, add together the Amps for each of your heaters using the chart below:
